D-backs Starting Lineup & Game Preview: Series Win in Sight, Corbin Pitching, Lamb Batting Third
With a win today, the Diamondbacks can end their 10-game road trip with a 6-4 record. That’s as good as we could’ve hoped for heading into the trip, particularly with the D-backs struggling early in the second half of the season as they headed into this road trip.
Patrick Corbin (8-10, 4.77 ERA) takes the ball for the D-backs today. He got roughed up by the Chicago Cubs in his last outing, giving up eight runs on 10 hits through three innings pitched. Leading up to that game he was riding a seven-game streak where he allowed three runs or less in each outing. Of course, the Giants offense doesn’t exactly strike fear into the heart of their opponents. They’re ranked 25th in the league in batting average, not to mention that at 88 home runs on the year, they’re the only team in the majors with under 100 total homers.
It’s a lefty heavy lineup for the D-backs today. Leading off and playing left field is David Peralta, who had a nice game last night going 3-for-6. Following him will be Gregor Blanco playing center field and covering for A.J. Pollock, who has the day off. The 3-6 batters are Jake Lamb, Paul Goldschmidt and J.D. Martinez.
Daniel Descalso slides in at second base today and he’ll bat seventh in the order. He’s followed by Ketel Marte and Chris Herrmann.
Jeff Samardzjia (6-11, 4.77 ERA) will be pitching today for the Giants. He’s having one of his worst years as a pro and has been knocked around at a robust .539 slugging percent against lefties this season. So don’t be surprised if Jake Lamb has a nice day, assuming he can take advantage. He’s hitting .455 with one homer in his career against the Shark.
