Diamondbacks Acquire Minor League Catcher John Ryan Murphy, Yasmany Tomas to 60-Day DL
The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired catcher John Ryan Murphy from the Minnesota Twins for LHP Gabriel Moya. In a corresponding move, and to make room for Murphy on the 40-man roster, the D-backs moved ailing Yasmany Tomas to the 60-day disabled list retroactive to June 3.
Murphy has played in 141 big league games with the New York Yankees, where he’d been ranked as a top-20 prospect for 6 straight seasons. He’s hitting .238/.283/.337 with five home runs over those games. He’s known primarily as a defensive asset more than he is an offensive threat and will add depth within the D-backs organization as he settles in to Triple-A Reno.
Moya was a solid left-hand pitching prospect for the D-backs who had success so far this season at the Double-A level, where he had a 0.81 ERA with 71 K over 44 innings pitched.
