D-backs Starting Lineup: Lamb Starting, Mathis Behind the Plate, Greinke on the Hill
Right when I thought the Diamondbacks were primed for an offensive streak they go and get shut-out by the Cardinals. It’s hard to imagine the Cardinals can pull that off again tonight, particularly against this lineup.
Zack Greinke will be on the hill for the D-backs, looking for his team-leading 13th win. His last outing against Atlanta was an eight inning, five-hit gem that was disrupted only by a home run by Sean Rodriguez on a “guess-right” slider down in the zone. If Greinke pitches with that same tenacity it will be a long night for Cardinals’ hitters.
On offense for the D-backs they roll out what I believe to be their best starting lineup from top to bottom. David Peralta hitting in the leadoff spot, followed by A.J. Pollock, Jake Lamb, Paul Goldschmidt and J.D. Martinez. That’s a mountain to get past if you’re on the Cardinals pitching staff.
At the bottom of the order is Daniel Descalso, Ketel Marte and Jeff Mathis.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals will send veteran and former ASU star Mike Leake to the mound against the D-backs. Jake Lamb is hitting .500 over six career at-bats, including two walks, against Leake. A.J. Pollock is hitting an even more impressive .600 against Leake in 10 career at-bats.
