D-backs Starting Lineup: Godley on the Hill, Peralta Leads Off, Followed by Pollock, Lamb, Goldy & Martinez
Are you starting to notice a trend? A.J. Pollock, Jake Lamb, Paul Goldschmidt, and J.D. Martinez all nice and neatly in a row. It’s the perfect snake pit, actually. Because if one doesn’t bite you, surely the next one will. And you can’t expect teams to be able to get through those four batters, four times a game, with no damage.
Now let’s talk about David Peralta batting at the top. He’s hitting .316/.364/.482 on the year and that includes .340/.367/.532 in the second half. I love him at the top of the order, leading teams right into the snake pit.
Following Martinez in the order tonight is Chris Owings, Ketel Marte and Chris Iannetta. I’d love to see Jeff Mathis start to take over as the clear number one catcher for the D-backs. Don’t get me wrong, Iannetta has come through in some clutch moments for the D-backs this season, but Mathis has just been solid lately. He’s slashing .400/.520/.500 in the second half.
Zack Godley takes the hill for the D-backs going for his 4th win on the year. He’s had trouble in his last two outings, giving up 11 runs combined for a 7.72 ERA. Compare that to his previous 11 starts where he’d surrendered 20 runs combined for a 2.58 ERA. Hopefully Godley has a strong outing tonight behind this mammoth lineup.
