Diamondbacks Starting Lineup: Corbin Starts for Walker, Martinez Sits as D-backs Go For Series Win

If it feels like it’s been a while since the Diamondbacks have won a series, that’s because it has. The last series win came against the Colorado Rockies on July 2. Now, I’ll admit that sometimes I may have just a tiny flair for the dramatic, but it’s not a stretch to think a win today could be a nice boost to the D-backs psyche.

Taijuan Walker has been scratched today and put on paternity leave. Starting in his place is Patrick Corbin (6-9, 4.66 ERA), who was set to start in the series opener on Friday against the Washington Nationals in Phoenix. Corbin has been inconsistent all year and he hasn’t logged a win since June 16 against the Phillies. As long as the Diamondbacks can get their offense rolling today, they should be able to pull this one out.

For the Reds, rookie RHP Luis Castillo (1-2, 3.41 ERA) will take the mound today. Castillo has a four-pitch repertoire while leaning on his fastball around 60% of the time. He mixes his other pitches in well. Watch for D-backs hitters to try and jump on that fastball early in the counts today.

J.D. Martinez is out of today’s lineup after getting hit by a pitch in his left hand and exiting last night’s game in the 4th inning. So if the lineup for the D-backs feels familiar, yet like there’s something missing, that’s why.
